The Second Knowledge Cities Summit was held in Shenzhen China, 5 and 6 November 2009. Main issues of the papers presented at the academic part of the conference were knowledge cities models and development; innovation-led cities; intellectual capital; knowledge and communities; Ubiquitous eco cities, knowledge cities in the middle-east. Ari-Veikko Anttiroiko, University of Tampere, Finland and Nicos Komninos, URENIO – Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, chaired a special session on Innovative Cities and Global Competition, including papers on the Future prospects of City 2.0 (A.V. Anttiroiko), Arabianranta (K. Halinen), intelligent cities (N. Komninos, E. Sefertzi), and the re-urbanisation of knowledge (W. van Winden).
