Smart city projects are opening a huge market of $1.2 trillion investment in a decade. The estimation is by Wim Elfrink, Cisco’ s chief globalisation officer. The firm is piloting multiple projects, including some in India. It envisages cities with the ability to connect virtually anything to the network, from cars and hospitals to home appliances and schools.
Building smart cities is a whole new ballgame, and Cisco CEO John Chambers has said that the business opportunity “may be bigger than the whole Internet” (see also: Cisco Joins a Trillion-Dollar Gold Rush).
