The new, myTaxi, intelligent application has the potential to make life easier for commuters and transform the local taxi markets. MyTaxi won a €25,000 prize and two years of mentoring in CODE_n12 competition at the Cebit trade show in Hannover. MyTaxi works by connecting people who are looking for a taxi with available drivers. Users can see where available taxis are on the map, while the drivers get passenger requests directly to their phones.
The competition’s jury was especially impressed by the speed at which myTaxi has the potential to change the german taxi market. Intelligent Appls, a startup based in Hamburg, has been pioneering the use of the application. Today, over 8,000 taxi drivers across Germany are taking orders through the myTaxi application. It’s use has extended to other countries and cities like Vienna and Barcelona, but the strongest users are still Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. The application is available for the iOS and Android systems.
Apart from myTaxi, the competition included other important and interesting entries. Ulrich Dietz, CEO of the company responsible for the CODE_n12 competition, said that startups in Europe are not less creative than the US equivalents, but Europe needs to become more efficient in helping them to become successful. “There has to be a much better startup culture”.
