The Smart Chicago Collaborative, a civic organization devoted to making lives better in Chicago through technology, has put together a collection of data sources in various areas of public safety and given some examples of safety apps being used around the US.
In Data.gov, the official datasets repository of the United States Government, there are over 800 datasets regarding public safety. Smart Chicago put together a sampling of different data sets about food, transportation, fire, buildings, natural disasters, worker safety and product safety, as well as a number of safety apps. By creating this list Smart Chicago aims to inspire and motivate the local and global civic innovation community in order to build civic apps around public safety.
