The US Department of Transportation has pledged up to $40 million (funding subject to future appropriations) to one city to help it define what it means to be a “Smart City “and become the country’ s first city to fully integrate innovative technologies ‘“ self-driving cars, connected vehicles, and smart sensors ‘“ into their transportation network.
Vision statements submitted by all 78 cities, or teams of cities and seven finalists were chosen in March. In “Designing Tomorrowland“ the Washington Post presents in detail the ideas of the seven finalists.
On June 9th, they held a live-streamed pitch meeting in Washington, and the winner will be announced later this month.
