The URBAN AND REGIONAL INNOVATION Research (URENIO) is a university lab within the Faculty of Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, conducting research on systems of innovation and intelligent / smart cities.

The lab specializes in the design and development of physical and digital environments supporting transformative innovations and new models for urban and regional ecosystems. Research encompasses innovation-led territories (technology districts, innovation ecosystems, innovative regions, smart specialisation areas), pathways for innovation and system-level innovation (spin-offs, sandbox experimentation, technology scale-up, platform-based innovation, user and data-driven innovation), and smart and intelligent cities sustaining growth, sustainability and climate change adaptation, digital and green transition.
