Pan European Networks, first issue on Smart Cities

Pan European Networks recently published their first issue on Smart Cities (Issue 01, May 2017). The theme is “Smart Cities chronicles: the technological breakthroughs improving connectivity, sustainability and quality of life for all of Europe’ s citizens”. Across 128 pages, a large variety of issues, ranging from case studies and thematic articles are presented. Featured articles include:

Markku Markkula: President of the European Committee of the Regions talks about smart innovations and growth in Europe. He discusses the need for European institutions to change their thinking to accommodate digitalisation and deliver sustainable growth. He highlights some of the specific initiatives undertaken at the EU level to support smart city projects and calls for more regional support.

Evelyne Gebhardt: The MEP discusses the developments around 5G internet capabilities and its role shaping the digital economy. She writes about the technology’ s potential to revolutionise big data and telecommunications, and transform the internet of things into a viable reality.

Janez Potocnik: The former European commissioner on using smart technology to make European agriculture more sustainable. He speaks about translating smart frameworks from the urban to the rural, and transforming European agriculture in the process.
