Spatial Planning in the Digital Age

As part of the 19th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki (May 4-7, 2023), Kritiki Publications organises a discussion on the collective volume Spatial Planning in the Digital Age, edited by Nikolaos Gavanas, Athina Giannakou, Anastasia Panori, Alexandros Sdoukopoulosc,

Sunday, May 7, 2023, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., in the “Philological Café” Hall at Pavilion 13.

The book explores spatial planning and the transition to digital technologies in contemporary cities. How the increasingly advanced technologies being introduced contribute to understanding the complexity of urban space, its transformation processes and digitally organised forms, as well as to address and manage complex, multi-layered challenges through physical-digital interactions. For spatial planning, the digital age is not just about automating tools or the planning system in general. It involves the search for a new planning paradigm and a new vision in which digital transformation can play a critical role. Through the 10 chapters of this book, the authors highlight significant issues in the consideration of spatial planning under the prism of the digital age, such as evolutionary transformation, knowledge transfer and creation through digital systems and social networking, and the use of digital tools and documents for designing sustainable urban development, mobility, and networks. Contributing authors are: Angeliki Apostolou, Eleni Verani, Nikolaos Gavanas, Athina Giannakou, Grigoris Kafkalas, Anastasia Nikolaidou, Anastasia Panori, Magda Pitsiava-Latinopoulou, Konstantina-Dimitra Salata, Alexandros Sdoukopoulos, Emmanouil Tranos.
