The URBAN AND REGIONAL INNOVATION Research (URENIO) is a university lab within the Faculty of Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, conducting research on innovation systems and intelligent cities.

The lab specializes in the design and development of DIP environments (digital-institutional-physical) in cities and regions supporting transformative innovations. Our research encompasses innovation-led territories (technology cities and districts, innovation ecosystems, innovative regions), pathways for innovation (system innovation, sandbox experimentation, technology scale-up, platform-based innovation, crowdsourcing, gen-AI and data-driven innovation), and strategies of innovation (regional strategies, smart specialisation strategies, measuring innovation performance).

In cooperation with  Intelspace Technologies (a spinoff of URENIO) we develop cutting-edge platforms and applications tailored for smart and intelligent cities. Our focus is on cities that implement smart systems to drive innovations that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and public safety, while progressing toward climate neutrality. By integrating advanced digital technologies and data-driven analytics, we aim to transform urban ecosystems comprehensively, setting new models for cities in the 21st century.
